Prosthodontics
This deals with the replacement or rebuilding of damaged and missing teeth.
When one or more teeth are missing, or have been extracted, this lead to a gap amongst the teeth. This can in turn disrupt the alignment of the teeth due to possible movement of the rest of the teeth, or may lead to loss of function, and therefore may lead to possible overload of other teeth that are remaining in function.
Teeth can be replaced by:
Implants
If there is adequate bone to support an implant, this is an ideal option.
Bridge
If there is remaining teeth to the front and back of a gap, a cemented bridge may be done, depending on the span of the gap, & the condition of the possible supporting teeth
Removable partial denture or Full Dentures
May either be made up of acrylic or metal.
